Our Project Provided School Supplies to 20 Students with Disabilities
The right to school project for the children with disabilities in Kilimanjaro region managed to provide school supplies to 20 disabled students in Njoro Primary school. As year three of the project take off, out of 20 (13 Male, 7 Females) selected students 16 are with autism and epilepsy while 4 are with physical disabilities. The project involved parents or care givers, government leaders, school teachers and representatives of students in beneficiaries selection process up to the implementation.
These students were given tailored school uniform, pen and exercise books while four of them have been registered in a rehabilitation clinic and will be given one wheelchair each in the next quarter of the project. The project aimed at increasing self esteem, confidence and independence to these students which will motivate them to go and stay in school. In addition to that parents and care takers are involved in the project so that they can develop a sense of ownership of improving learning environment for their children. Again government leaders are involved in order to see in action how to prioritize the special needs of students with disabilities and the importance of creating friendly learning environment.
